Description
“Crap,” Hotrod muttered sharply as he drew a line through a component on the drawing on the table in front of them. “Crap, crap, and crap,” he continued using a red sharpie to mark up the schematic with each expletive, making it resemble a slasher victim.
“Stop the presses,” he smiled. “Now this is interesting.”
“Did you just quote Jack Nicholson in Batman,” Abigail Hawke asked?
“What,” he asked breaking focus and looking up at his client?
“Never mind,” she replied with a hint of concern, frustration and amusement. “What’s wrong with the car?”
“Where to begin? Who designed this thing?”
“Guardian Aerospace engineers, why? What’s the problem?”
“Well, they may know how to build an airplane, but they don’t know anything about automotive engineering. All the components are here of course, but they aren’t the optimal component designs for this application. And they aren’t properly tuned for a formula one application.”
“Did they get anything right,” Abigail asked, a bad feeling forming in the pit of her stomach?
“Oh yeah, sorry,” Hotrod answered dropping the marker on the desk. “It’s about seventy percent there. And your power source is nothing short of…”
“Proprietary,” she interrupted. It’s still in the R & D stage, and GAe wants to keep its details confidential.”
“No worries. What happens at Hotrod’s Performance Tuning, stays at Hotrod’s Performance Tuning.”
“Oh I am not worried about you blabbing,” Hawke chuckled. “We had you vetted like you were a Vice Presidential candidate. Your background check was quite thorough, and the final report is pretty impressive. We’re lucky to have you, and I’m personally grateful for your willingness to help me with this.”
“As I was saying,” Hotrod continued with a hint of self conscious embarrassment, “the power and power distribution systems are quite…unique.”
“Okay,” Hawke replied cautiously looking at the crimson stained drawings. “So where are we then, and can you have the car ready in time for the race?”
“Not only will the car be ready on time, but your driver will even have a few days practice in it,” Hotrod said with confidence.
“I’ll be driving it,” she smiled.
“You? Have you ever driven a formula 1?”
“No.”
“Nascar?”
“No.”
“Soap box derby?”
“I’m afraid not.”
“Then perhaps I can recommend a driver to assist you with this part of the endeavor?”
“It will be fine,” Amanda assured him. “I’m a very fast learner.”
“I certainly hope so,” he said, the concern evident in his voice.
Events take place in 
in preparation for the 2016 Angel Falls Gran Prix, sanctioned by AF Automobile Racing Commission.
